Heard Any Good Books Lately?

It's been a while since I've updated the blog and in the intervening years I've started a new venture. In addition to my day job, I'm narrating audiobooks.

So today, I thought I'd give a quick rundown of a few of the titles I now have available on Audible, Amazon and iTunes.

Free Range Institution               and                Car Wash Blues

Mick Murphy is a mostly retired journalist living in peace in the quiet, tropical paradise of Key West. Only he has a habit of wandering into the middle of federal drug stings and cartel wars.

Both of these books start with Mick quickly catapulted from another normal day into the chaos of another unwanted adventure. Before he knows what's happening, his journalistic curiosity sucks him deeper into the danger and intrigue. The story unfolds from Mick's point of view in a "noir" style that was really fun to do. I enjoyed bringing Mick to life along with his "black bag" friend Norm, Police Chief Richard Dowley, a burned out Jesuit missionary and Tita (Mick's on again, off again girlfriend).

If you've ever been to Key West, you'll recognize lots of the local haunts and landmarks mentioned throughout the books. Both were fun stories with a couple of twists along the way.

There is some pretty salty language (I just read 'em, I don't write 'em) so be aware of that if you choose to take a trip to Key West with Mick and his friends.

I really enjoyed this book.

As the story begins, we meet Daniel Peterson. Daniel has life all figured out. He's about to marry a smart, beautiful girl and step into a well paying job at her dad's company. As the two of them are getting ready to start the day, a news report catches his attention. A beloved children's author has passed away. He and his fiancé reminisce about their favorite stories by Professor Poppyseed.

Then, Dan gets the phone call that derails his perfectly planned existence. A Lawyer calls to inform him that his father has died and he is the sole heir to a substantial fortune. It's a confusing call, since Dan thought his father had died years before. As it turns out, the father his mom kept him from had been providing for him from afar and was none other than Professor Poppyseed. Dan is about to be a very rich young man. There's just one catch. Dan has to travel to the west coast, retrieve his father's ashes and scatter them. Thus begins Dan's journey through his father's life. Along the way he gets to know the man he never met and his well planned life is changed in ways he could never have seen coming.

The story is fun, emotional, heart-warming and hopeful and I enjoyed each of the characters Dan meets on his life-changing journey.

(The first book in the Dragon's Blade Trilogy)

If you enjoy Epic Fantasy, like The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia or The Shanara Chronicles, you will enjoy this story.

Darnuir, the Prince of Dragons is mortally wounded as an army of demons overruns the capital of Aurisha. This king is killed during the battle and Brackendon, the last of the wizards, finds Darnuir near the point of death and whisks him halfway around the world. As the only heir, Darnuir is now King and rightful bearer of the Dragon's Blade - a powerful enchanted sword. But if he dies, there will be no one to wield the blade and Dragon's humanity and Faeries will be doomed.

To save the life of the new king, Brackendon "reverts time" on him. The spell effectively "heals" Darnuir by destroying his body and remaking him as an infant. Brackendon leaves the young king in the care of humans. He is unaware of who or what he is until he once again becomes of age. The young Dragon King, just finding out who he is, must now lead a combined army of the three races against the evil wizard Castallan, the Dark Lord, Rectar and his demon horde.

I got to use a number of accents from the UK and had a blast telling this story. It's my best seller to date and I've just started pre-production on book two in the series. I hope to have it available by July.

If any of these sound like something you'd like to hear, click the link and it will take you straight to the Audible page for the book. Then, I'd love it if you'd leave a review.
